Rumford, Rhode Island; August 2015 – The Rhode Island Mortgage Bankers Association (RIMBA) annual golf tournament to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society was a huge success for the 20th year in a row.
Held at the picturesque Agawam Hunt private club which marked its official beginning in 1897, the golf tournament took place on August 18 and raised over $1,100 for the American Cancer Society in the name of Patti Slepkow.
Patricia (Patti) K. Slepkow of Steamboat Springs and Providence, Rhode Island, relished her career in the mortgage banking industry. After graduating in 1984 from Northern Michigan University, Patti was employed at Freddie Mac between 1986 and 2001. She later worked at Merrill Lynch Credit Corporation and Chevy Chase Bank as a vice president. What’s more, Patti was a member of the Rhode Island Mortgage Bankers Association, where she served as president in both 1993 and 1994. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Association and the Northern Michigan University Alumni Association. Patti was also one of the founding members of the New England Mortgage Bankers Conference.
Patti was just as energetic in her personal life as she was in her professional one. She was an avid skier, traveler, New England Patriots fan, and author of Patti’s Picks – her commentary of local restaurants which has become widely famous as the guide to everything drinking and dining in the area. It’s no wonder that Patti was friends to many. Sadly, on February 23, 2009 at the age of 47, Patti passed away after a long illness.
Since 2009, this annual golf tournament also sold mulligans, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society in Patti’s name. To date, more than $4,800 has been collected to help fight cancer. Accounting for the proceeds from the tournament, more than $5,900 has been donated from generous donors and sponsors.
For more than 100 years, the American Cancer Society, a non-profit organization, has tirelessly worked to save lives, increase knowledge, find cures, discover treatments, and in essence, create a world with less cancer.
